Larry Di Giovanni, my Grandpa! Today my Grandpa past away. I haven't cried yet, because I know that he is now dancing in the streets of heaven, chatting with Jesus and reconnecting with some of his loved ones that have gone on before him. My Grandpa was an amazing man with a huge heart. Grandpa's parents both migrated to America from Sicily. He grew up in New Jersey and then joined the Navy despite suffering from sea sickness. I am proud of him for serving our country in WWII. He has been married to my Grandma for 60 years. Their love and devotion to each other is a wonderful example to younger generations of how God intended marriage to be. As long as I can remember I have always heard words of affirmation about each other, never a negative comment about the other. They met at a dance in the 1940's, the ones you see in movies with a lot of soldiers and cute girls. The way my grandpa tells the story is that from the balcony he saw a young woman standing on the dance floor and he looked at his best friend declaring that he was going to marry her. Sure enough they were married and believe it or not his best friend married Grandma's twin sister for a double wedding. I have always loved hearing that story because I love romantic movies were two people fall in love and live happily ever after. My Grandma and Grandpa have lived out their happily ever after. I love them so much and look forward to seeing Grandpa when I make it to heaven!
Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. Meanwhile we groan, longing to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling, because when we are clothed, we will not be found naked. For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. Now it is God who has made us for this very purpose and has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. We live by faith, not by sight. We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.
